On Keeping a Notebook
The point was never the record. It was the practice of noticing enough to have something worth recording.

So the rule I keep: write the noticing down next to the thing noticed, and let the margins hold the argument.

Your files stay files
Yes, there's a database that tracks the changes, but at the end of the day it's your files on your computer. And maybe your friend's computer, if you share.
Encrypted in transit and at rest
Sync runs over TLS between your devices, and what lands in our database is encrypted before it gets there, with the keys held outside it. Search and its embeddings run on your Mac; the index is never uploaded. The sync service still sees your note content while a document is open, because that is what makes real-time editing and agents work.
Airplane mode without worry
Keep editing off the grid or in the air. We keep taking those logs and get you up to date the moment you are back online.
Self-hosting
Point Solomon at a sync server you run: an old Mac mini, a box on the VPN you already share with people. Set the sync address in Settings.
